We cannot tell anyone why they should join any society, but we'll name some of the benefits you might get by becoming a member of one.    A good society or organization should meet the needs of every person who joins.    People have a wide range of expectations, like getting a well-rounded educational experience, or maybe meeting a special someone with the same hobby or interest.    Our society, the Coastal Valley Orchid Society, offers its members a whole array of benefits.

One reason a society is formed is to bring together people with a common interest.    From there, the group can expand into education, show-and-tell, competition, social interaction, links to related events, and generally having a good time.    These events should have a positive experience to everyone involved.    We think the Coastal Valley Orchid Society has all of these qualities to offer.

Our Society hosts some of the best programs and speakers available.    We go to great lengths to get the most interesting, knowledgeable, and personable speakers for our monthly meetings.    This keeps members interested and expands their education on the world of orchids.    It also draws new people into the club who may have an interest in one particular topic the program covers.

We encourage members to bring in any problem orchids or outstanding specimens; or otherwise to share any experience or question they may have.    The club is an information database.    Where else are you going to learn about your orchid first hand?    Many of our members are quite knowledgeable and a few of them are commercial growers.    We also have an extensive library table set up each month at our meetings.

The Coastal Valley Orchid Society prides itself in getting involved with local orchid shows and setting up displays.    Our members are very artistic and have lots of great ideas for each show's theme!    Also, at our meetings you will find that our members go to great lengths to show what they can grow by bringing their plants to our meetings for our 'Show Table', and this is one of the most popular aspects of the meeting.    No where else does one see so many different orchids in bloom in one place, except at an orchid show.    The positive feedback from the membership and visitors keeps the spirit alive with people constantly striving to produce the maximum potential of their orchids.    We think this is a great experience for our members to bring in what they can grow so our newer members can see for themselves what they can grow, too.    Remember, it shouldn't be an intimidating process for those who are just starting out with orchids, but an encouraging one, to show what they also can do.

All orchids and no fun makes for a dull club!   We found ways to mix orchids with other events besides our regular meetings.   Right now we do three orchid shows a year; and one day soon we hope to have our own production.   Particapating in these shows brings members together to work and create exhibits the public can enjoy.   This past year we threw several Barbecues not only for our own society but we had several other societies attend.    We hold them at Chaotic Exotics on Campbell Road, just off Hwy. 246; and we have some great food and offer members a chance to not only tour the Chaotic Exotics greenhouse but also meet and make new friends with other orchid enthusiasts.    The Grand Finale, our end of the year Christmas Holiday Potluck Dinner; and it features fantastic food and great holiday spirit.   We really have a great time!

Members of any organization can find related interests and events through its newsletters and word-of-mouth.   We publish a monthly newsletter, posting other organizations' events with dates and times.   Any special orchid events are also mentioned.   Our web site has links that might be of interest to the browser.   We strive to keep members informed of all orchid happenings and related events.

The Coastal Valley Orchid Society puts all this together, and it spells FUN and GOOD TIMES!    No matter how dedicated the member, be it commercial grower or a one orchid novice, everybody can have fun in our Society.   No matter where you live, look for an organization that comes close to meeting these benefits.   We hope you can make the effort to attend one of our monthly meetings, and see for yourself.   Remember, our meetings are free and open to the public.   We hope to see you soon!
